Asked to give the devotional blessing for our women's tea party at church, my thoughts quickly turned inward as I asked my Lord what He desired of me. After some intimate devotional time considering what theme God wanted me to go with, the following came about:
We are brought together today wearing our decorative hats and many smiles as we unite over a flavorful cup of tea and tasty treats. This is a superb way to relax and share with the intention of reconnecting with friends, giving and receiving the gift of companionship and encouragement, along with building-up one another. This is called fellowship, which is the theme for today’s blessing.
Initially, I was reminded of a TV sitcom theme song from the distant past, which begins something like this; ‘sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same, You wanna be where everybody knows Your name.’
What is more, I was also reminded of the first chapter in Romans concerning Pauls’ letter to the Christians (Romans 1:7-10). The passage focuses on the blessings of Christian fellowship. Paul reveals his intense love for the Roman Christians even though he did not know most of them personally, yet he remained in whole-hearted fellowship with them as he wrote these words, "I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you.”
Echoing Paul, we women follow in his footsteps as we gather together to thank God through Jesus Christ for everyone here today. We are joining in fellowship and are thus strengthening the bond that ties us together, which is our mutual love for our Lord and Savior. Our loving relationship with one another is much like our relationship with God. Our Heavenly Father desires, more than anything, for us to join with Him in heartfelt fellowship as we worship Him through Jesus Christ. So, today we give heartfelt gratitude to God for His special gift of fellowship. Bearing this in mind, please join me with prayer;
Bless us oh beloved Lord as we gather in your name. We are ever grateful to you for our beautiful sisters in Christ and this opportunity for fellowship. Bless and encourage those who are unable to be with us today. Bless this house of God and bless everyone who made this time of fellowship possible. Bless also this beautiful gift of fellowship, through Christ. 'May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ,and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.' (2 Corinthians 13:14)
